Rutland Town - Heather L. Watrous, 50, of Rutland Town, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, on May 23, 1975, the daughter of Penni Johnson and Kerry Narf. She moved to Vermont during high school and graduated from Black River Union High School in 1993. A natural performer, Heather studied music and theater and embraced every opportunity life presented. She had recently become a hair stylist before marrying the love of her life, Jacob Watrous, on August 25, 2007.
Heather worked in the restaurant industry in Killington during her early years. She later spent many meaningful years at Five Elements Day Spa before opening her own successful business, Scissors and Sparrows, where she welcomed clients into her home and poured her heart into her work. When she wasn't styling hair, Heather brought joy to the stage-singing in a rock-and-roll band and performing in numerous theater productions, including Little Shop of Horrors (Chiffon), The Wizard of Oz (Glinda the Good Witch), and Urinetown (Penelope Pennywise). She cherished every moment spent doing what she loved and being with the people she loved.
Everyone who sat in her chair left feeling better-not only looking better. She had a rare gift for both styling hair and soothing souls. Heather was a devoted wife, a loving fur-baby mom, a loyal friend, a talented stylist, an unforgettable singer and actor, and one of the most selfless people to walk this earth. People felt safe being their true selves with her, sharing laughter and honesty without hesitation. She carried an immense light within her, and she gave it freely. Heather was emotionally intuitive and socially graceful; she always seemed to know exactly what to say. She lived a joyful life and was deeply loved in return. Her husband, fur babies, family, friends, and experiencing all that life had to offer meant everything to her.
She is survived by her husband, Jacob Watrous, and their three beloved fur babies, Mya, Baxter, and Zeppelin, all of Rutland Town; her half-brother, Ryan Wisth; half-sister, Katie Narf; Aunt/Mom Beth Josselyn; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 5, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Rutland Moose Club, 78 Center St., Rutland, VT. Guests are invited to bring a favorite photo of Heather to contribute to her family's collection. Those who were lucky enough to know her will never forget the comfort of her presence or the love she brought into their lives.
