Heidi Louise Downs

Heidi Louise Downs (nee' Stegmann) was born in University City, Missouri on August 30, 1952, to William Stegmann and Mae Stegmann (nee' Dragoo). She passed away, Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Jonesburg, Missouri at the age of 73.
Heidi grew up in University City, Missouri and graduated from Lutheran North High School in 1970. After graduating, Heidi went on to become a passionate and devoted teacher. She married the love of her life, Pat Downs, on June 30, 1979, at St. James Lutheran Church in University City. The couple settled in Union, Missouri where Heidi became a special education teacher for the Union School district. Heidi served as a teacher there for 35 years before retiring. Outside of her career, Heid was a highly active member of St. Paul Luthreran Church in Union. She taught Sunday school there for many years and volunteered at vacation bible school there. Heidi also enjoyed staying close with college friends from Cape Girardeau and with high school friends from Lutheran North.
In her spare time, Heidi enjoyed many different hobbies. She was an avid photographer, scrapbooker, and baker. She also had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She could get in the car and go anywhere. Her dream was to visit Liverpool as she was a huge fan of the Beatles. In the summertime, Heidi and Pat would travel to Bull Shoals Lake for a boat trip with their friends. Heidi was also a proud member of a coffee club for retired school teachers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Pat Downs; daughter, Carolyn "Carrie" Downs of Union; son, Ricky (Sarah) Downs of Union; six grandchildren, Abbie Adams, Emma Adams, Caden VanDenBossche, Leelan VanDenBossche, Zack Downs, Bradlee Downs; one great-grandchild, Princeton; sisters Gretchen (Paul) Brune of Campbellton, MO; Tina (Mark) Meyer of St. Louis, MO; brothers, Don (Barbara) Stegmann of University City, MO; and David (Jean) Stegmann of St. Louis, MO. and many other cherished family members and friends.
Visitation for 73-year-old Heidi Downs will be held Monday, January 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Union. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with interment immediately following in the church cemetery. A luncheon will follow interment.
