Helen Mae Bumstead (Nee Leier) Helen Mae Bumstead, 83, of Romeoville, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Born July 24, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, she married Stanley M. Bumstead on June 30, 1962, in St. Peter's, Missouri. Helen will be remembered for her warm, creative spirit. She baked the most delicious chocolate chip cookies- so good her grandchildren are still trying to replicate the taste. She lovingly hand stitched Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. A lifelong lover of books, she was rarely seen without something to read. Helen cherished her pets throughout the years, treating them like family. Above all else she found so much joy in spending time with her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Flora Leier; her sister, Kate Thomas; her brother, Tony Leier; and her brothers in law, Bill Thomas and John Pitman. She is survived by her loving husband, Stan Bumstead; and their children, Judy (Jim) Benda, Stan (Lynda) Bumstead, and Kevin (Debbie) Bumstead. Helen was a proud grandmother to Caitlin (Zac) Degenhardt, Jillian Zuccarelli, Nina Bumstead, Jay Bumstead, Kyle Bumstead, Casey Bumstead, Zach Bumstead, Luke (Gianna) Bumstead, Jake Bumstead, and Mya Bumstead; great grandmother to Ellie Degenhardt, Luciana Bumstead, and Philomena Bumstead; her siblings, Barb Pitman and Bill (Gayle) Leier; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Leier. Visitation Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel, 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 from 9:00am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00am. Interment following service at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, 16201 104th Avenue, Orland Park, IL 60467.
