Helen Louise Combs, age 73, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on September 18, 1951, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, to the late Will Sanders and Rosella Bankston Sanders.
Helen was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and partner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Rosella Sanders; her sister, Idabell “Sissy” Lash/Leftwich; her brother, Billy Sanders; her significant other, Joe C. Dulaney; and her beloved daughter, Alesia L. Combs.
Helen graduated from Claymont High School in Uhrichsville, Ohio, in 1969. Shortly after, she moved to Columbus, where she met John D. Combs Sr. Together, they had two children: Alesia “Lisa” and John Jr. “John John”.
After settling in Columbus, Helen began working at the Main Library before becoming a school bus driver for Columbus City Schools. Later, she continued her love of caring for others by running a home daycare. She had a deep love for children and a nurturing spirit that touched many lives.
She is survived by her son, John D. Combs Jr. (Deshon L. Combs, wife); her grandchildren, Jaida L. Combs, John D. Combs III, and Michelle Hart; and a host of extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
