Helen L. Costello, 98, a resident of St. Francis Home, passed away early Friday, September 5, 2025.
Helen was born in Fond du Lac on November 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Louis and Alvina (Birschbach) Buechel. On May 17, 1952, she married George Costello at St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her six children, Betty (Harry) Schneider of Fond du Lac, Joe (Sherry) Costello of San Antonio, Texas, Sharon (Gary) Vaughan of Kimberly, Judy (Dave) Wollerman of Fond du Lac, Chris (Jim) Daleiden of Fond du Lac, and Teresa (Steve) Ritzinger of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Loretta Costello of Eden; sisters-in-law, Jane Majeska and Rosemary Costello; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, especially Dorothy Kraus and Dawn the therapist who would play cards and visit with her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alvina; husband, George; son, Bill Costello; two sisters, Marie (Nick) Schaub and Evelyn (Willie) Berenz-Daun; two brothers, Melvin (Connie) Buechel and Frances (JoAnn) Buechel; infant brother; and in-law's.
The visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at St. Francis Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at St. Francis Home, the therapists, and SSM Hospice team for their care and compassion for Helen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Helen’s name to the Hospice Home of Hope or a charity of your choice.
