Helen L. Dawes, 94, of Plainfield passed away January 12, 2025. She was born August 30, 1930 to the late Edward and Grace (Chappell) Cubert in Indianapolis, IN. She worked as food director for Wayne Township Schools for over 30 years retiring in 1994. She was a member of Ben Davis Christian Church. Helen‘s main priority was her family. She led the family with a strong emphasis on faith, grace and never-ending love. Helen was known to be impatient and stubborn at times, but it was usually these moments that brought our fondest memories. As Helen’s independence was robbed by macular degeneration, she continued to live her life with style and spunk. Her family will miss the back scratches, fashion advice, and whoopin pies. They will miss the memories and laughs of Helen going to clown school, becoming Blueberry Marmalade. While the pain of losing her here on Earth is strong, the peace gained is stronger knowing she is with her husband, son, brother, sister, and dear friends and family up in Heaven. Helen is survived by two daughters, Diana L. (Thomas) Kepler and Debra L. (Benjamin) Burton; 6 grandchildren, Michael Burton, Staci (John) Laing, Brent (Heather) Dawes, Brittany (Nick) Butts, Courtney (Adam) Schulz, and Brooke (Chris) Morphis; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Dawes and a son, Donald L. Dawes. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 17, 2025 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to Ben Davis Christian Church or the Muscular Distrophy Association (MDA).
