Helen Egstad, 95, passed away Sunday, June 1st, 2025, in Fergus Falls, MN, with her family at her side.
Helen was born January 14, 1930, to her parents Inga (Odegaard) and Sigurd Olsen, in Wyndmere, ND. She moved with her family to Grand Forks, ND, when she was young. It was at Bethel Church in Grand Forks that she met her future husband Bert, and they were confirmed together. She attended school in Grand Forks until 10th grade when she had to quit school to support her family after her dad died. She proudly earned her GED later in life.
Helen and Bert were united in marriage November 19, 1950, in Bethel Church, Grand Forks. To this union six kids were born. She and her young family moved from Grand Forks to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and eventually back to Grand Forks. After retirement, Helen and Bert settled in Fergus Falls. Helen supported her family as a devoted homemaker and was always there for her kids when they came home from school.
Helen enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was often writing down recipes she found. She also liked reading and knitting. Most importantly, Helen loved her family. She found great joy and fulfillment in being a mom.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Inga and Sigurd Olsen, three sisters, and two sons-in-law. She is survived by her loving husband, Bert; children, Vicki Smith, Becky (Scott) Kvamme, Tim (Lisa), Kathy (Frank) Vukelich, Kari Barrett, John (Mary); 15 grandkids; 12 great-grandkids; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Monday, June 16, 2025, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with a visitation beginning at 10 AM. Private interment will be at Fargo National Cemetery the following day.
