Helen Hardy, 74, departed this life for her heavenly home on Monday, May 31, 2022, surrounded by her family. Helen was born in Tunica, Mississippi on September 26, 1947. She later moved to Evansville, IN where attained her CNA. She was employed for many years at Woodbridge Nursing Home.
Helen loved to read the Bible and she enjoyed gathering recipes for her collection. She was a thoughtful person who Helen religiously sent Get Well and Thinking of You cards to her family and friends and church family.
Helen was a long-time member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church where she was a devoted member of the Usher Board. She began her career as an usher, faithfully serving with her mother Mandy Layne, each Sunday. Helen continued this legacy of service until her illness. She had a quiet kind spirit when she ushered or worked on anything in the church. She helped the Usher Board with their Mitten Tree project at Christmas and their Feed the Hungry project in support of the Cleaves Clothes Closet each month. She enjoyed passing out hard candy before the Worship Service began. She started from the rear of the church and maneuvered her way up to the choir stand and the pulpit. Members looked forward to receiving a mint or fruit-flavored candy treat from Helen each Sunday. She will be sadly missed by all.
Helen was preceded in death by her mother, Mandy Hardy Layne and brother, Danny Layne.
Helen leaves to cherish fond & loving memories, four sisters: Renette Boyd, Franceill Layne-Means (Mike), Lisa Layne Meriweather, Martha Dean; two brothers: Joseph Layne (Ruth), Terry Layne (Donna); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friend, Cynthia Moore.
