Helen LaRue (Hime) Hulsey
December 19, 1926 - October 9, 2025
Helen LaRue Hulsey, a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025, in Keller, Texas. Called LaRue by her family, she was born and raised in Atascosa County at a farm that the Himes called The Old Place, a few miles south of Charlotte, Texas, to James Allen Hime and Selma Agnes Raven Hime. LaRue graduated from Charlotte High School in 1944. She married James "Buck" Quanah Hulsey in 1944, and they had two children, James Earl and Larry Rue.
LaRue was active in Eastern Star for many years, serving as a Grand Matron of the Deer Creek Masonic Lodge number 510 in Everman, Texas, and was a longtime member of Handley United Methodist Church. She worked as a rate writer at Ryan Richards Garrison Insurance Company for more than three decades.
She is survived by her son James; five grandchildren: Angela Juliet (married to Brian Walitt), Lara Kristin, Robin Ann (married to Dean Stansel), James Michael, and Aric Quinten; five great-grandchildren; and her sister Selma Aleene (married to Carlton Browning) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Larry, and siblings James Allen Jr., John Ernst "Clifford," Athalee Geraldine, and Marlow Earl "Buddy."
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Hurst, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) at https://umcmission.org/work/humanitarian-relief.
