Helen Pries, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by her devoted husband and family after suffering a stroke.
Born in Chicago, Illinois to Frieda and Thomas Williams, Helen was the youngest of seven children - all of whom preceded her in death. She grew up on the city's East Side, where her warmth, humor, and bright spirit first began to shine.
In 1953, Helen married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Daniel Pries, whom she had known since kindergarten. Together they shared 72 years of marriage, raising three children and building a life rich in laughter, loyalty, and love.
Helen is survived by her husband, Dan, and their children:
Jaime Pries, and his children Morgan and Ryan Pries
Jacki Tatman (Phil), and their children Mitchell and Daniel Tatman
David Pries (Charlene), and their daughter Kyleigh Pries
Helen and Dan raised their family in Palos Heights, Illinois, before retiring to Arizona-first in Surprise, and later in Scottsdale-to be closer to family.
She was a proud member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter HM in Palos Heights and Chapter DP in Surprise, where she found deep friendships and shared her lifelong love of learning. A passionate reader and curious mind, Helen was always eager to share books, ideas, and thoughtful conversation.
Her faith was a quiet but steady presence throughout her life. She served for many years as a Deacon at Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church, where her kindness and compassion touched countless lives.
Helen's gentle wisdom, her ability to make friends anywhere she went, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, with the service beginning at 2:00 PM and a reception immediately following.
