Helen Reinertsen Obituary

October 30, 2024. Born on September 17, 1943 to Ester and Trygve Grundeland, Helen
grew up in Brooklyn, NY where she enjoyed time as a member of the Norwegian Folk
Dancing club in Brooklyn. She attended the Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn School of
Nursing and received her Registered Nursing Degree in1965 and then married the love
of her life, Alf Reinertsen. Her career in nursing spanned many years and included work
at Valley Hospital in NJ, Home Care and finally retiring from Helen Hayes Hospital in
West Haverstraw in 2004. Helen's joy of service was demonstrated as a member of the
Central Presbyterian Church in Haverstraw where she served time as an Elder and as
head of the Fellowship committee. Helen was also a member of the Stony Point
Ambulance Corps Auxiliary. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend Helen liked
to spread joy and cared for everyone she met.
Helen was predeceased by her brother, Harald Grundeland. Helen is survived by her
loving husband of 59 years, Alf Reinertsen, her three children and their spouses: Evelyn
(Quentin) Mariano, Todd (Kate) Reinertsen, and Cindy (Jason) Samuel, her beloved
grandchildren: Quentin J. Mariano, Sofia Mariano, Andrew Samuel, Ryan Samuel,
Emilie Reinertsen, Charlie Reinertsen, and Annabel Reinertsen, along with several
cousins and her nephews.
Her family will always cherish memories of her stories, laughter and how she cared for
and spread joy to others.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations in Loving Memory of Helen A. Reinertsen may be made to a Food Pantry of your choice.

To my Tante Helen. I will always remember my visits to Haverstraw staying at the old house which was always filled with love and good smells. She always had an embrace and a kind word. Even in my darkest days she would reach out from time to time to see how I was doing.
