Helen A. Schmidt, longtime resident of Fraser, died and entered eternal life on Tuesday evening. She was 90 years of age.

Helen was born in Bay City on May 26, 1918, daughter of the late Rev. J. George and Agnes Nuechterlein. She was baptized into faith by her father on June 9, 1918 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust, Michigan. She attended Bay City Central, was a graduate of Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing and achieved her Register Nurse Degree from Wayne State University. Helen served our country honorably in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. during WWII serving in Africa, Italy, and France as 1st Lieutenant. After the war, Helen worked for the Veterans Hospital of Saginaw for 15 years, retiring in 1964. She was then united in marriage to her beloved Franklin on July 12, 1964. The couple made their home in Fraser. Helen was the head of the Hospice Care of Nightingale Nursing Home for many years. Helen was a devoted Christian who was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Lutheran Book Store Committee for many years. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser where she was very active in the Shut-in Ministry. Helen dedicated her life to helping others. A loving and caring woman, Helen will be deeply missed by the many she has touched in her lifetime.

Helen is survived by her Sister-in-law, Jeanne Nuechterlein and 13 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, on February 27, 2001, brothers Herbert, Walter, Alvin, Otto, and Ralph and sister Edna Nuechterlein.

Visitation will be held at Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Rd., Fraser on Friday 1pm-9pm. A funeral will be held in St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser at 12:30pm with additional visitation at 12noon. Memorial contributions may be addressed to St. John Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
