Dighton- Helen Joan Scott, 85, passed away on Sunday October 26, 2025 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. A joyful and pleasant disposition carried her through a well lived life. She was loved by all who knew her. She was born on September 11, 1940 in Dodge City to Charlie Ralph and Ada (Ihloff) Mack and was raised in Dighton and was the youngest of 3 lovely Mack daughters cherished and loved by their Parents and Grandparents- Herbert & Jessie Mack of Jetmore and William & Mary Ihloff of Garden City.
She participated in many high school activities but especially loved music and was in the Dighton High School Band with the Brass Section and piano accompanist for small groups. She graduated with the Class of 1958 from Dighton High School and continued her education at Fort Hays State University and graduated in 1962 with her degree in Education.
She married another Dightonian, Richard Dean Scott in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona on August 21, 1965 when she was 25 and he was 27. They lived most of their married life in Flagstaff, Arizona. Most of her working career was as an Executive Secretary for the Arizona Babbitt Family. Joan and Dean returned to Kansas in 1999 and retired in Ness City. They enjoyed traveling with Mary and Linda and their husbands.
She is survived by the Nieces and Nephews of her Sisters, along with their children and grandchildren, as well as a Brother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband and Sisters.
Graveside Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Dighton Memorial Cemetery with Rev Jennifer Boeker officiating followed by a lunch and reception at the First Christian Church in Dighton. She was a voracious reader most of her life so in keeping with that in her memory Memorials are suggested to the Lane County Library or First Christian Church in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
