Marie Alice Schaffer

Dighton- Marie Alice Schaffer, 95, died on Tuesday October 28, 2025 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. She was born on November 14, 1929 in France.
Marie Alice Schaffer lived in Southern California when she first moved to the United States, where she worked as a hostess in a French restaurant. She eventually made her way to Salinas, in Northern California, where she met Clarence Kiesling "C.K." Schaffer, Jr., while working as a waitress. "Kay" was in law enforcement at the time. They married on August 1, 1963 in Santa Cruz, California. After their marriage, they lived in the San Francisco Bay area of California for a few years. Kay was born and raised in Topeka, and always wanted to move back to his home state of Kansas. They moved to the Dighton/Alamota area in the early 1970's, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. They adopted their daughter, Laverna when she was a teenager. Marie Alice eventually settled into life in rural Kansas, and worked as the bookkeeper for the family business, Dusky Dell Enterprises.
Marie Alice was a motorcycle enthusiast, and proud member of the Harley Owners Group for many years. She attended St. Theresa Catholic Church of Dighton, and in recent years, made some friends at the First Baptist Church of Dighton, including Cyndi Piedra, who became like family.
She is survived by her Daughter- Laverna Ochs of Larned, Four Grandchildren- Christopher Schaffer, Allison Brown, Audrey Trimmer & Aries Friesen and 9 Great-Grandchildren- Jackson, Paxton, Pheonix, Axel, Hendrix, Alexis, Aubrey, Keeva & Liam, Nephew- Clyde (Ana) Schaffer of Scotts Valley, California, 3 Great-Nephews- William Schaffer, Jacob Schaffer & Joshua Schaffer all of Scotts Valley, California, Great-Niece- Catherine (Wesley) Lima of San Diego, California, and Cousin- Annette Young of Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her Husband, "C.K.", Brother-In-Law, "Jay" Schaffer and Sister-In-Law, Kiyo (Suzuki) Schaffer.
The Celebration of Life Service will be at 4:00 PM Saturday, November 8, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Dighton with Rev. Ken Bowden officiating. A private Burial will be in Buda Cemetery in Ness County at a later date. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
