Helen M. Spicer

Helen M. Spicer, age 93, of Sparta, WI, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, peacefully at home. She was born August 31, 1928, in California and was adopted a year later by Leslie and Mary (Tighe) Emery.
Helen met the love of her life, Edward Spicer, at a USO dance in California. They were united in marriage on January 27, 1949, in San Diego, CA. In 1968, they moved to a farm on rural St. Mary's Ridge. Helen was active in the Mary Belles Homemakers group and loved to square dance with her husband.
Helen was a "giver of all good things"; a title given to her by her grandchildren. She was an avid Brewers fan, Santa collector and enjoyed reading and cross-stitching. Her children and grandchildren will forever remember her famous homemade macaroni and cheese.
Helen is survived by her children Margaret "Maggie" Ryan of Tomah, Carol Klinkner of Sparta, step daughter in-law, Suzanne Cromie of Essex Junction, VT, grandchildren, William (Ben Coblentz) Annis, Jennifer Annis, Jessica (Iain) Schulz-MacLeod, Taylor (Kirsten Hogan) Ryan, Ryan (Karen), Sarah, and Jason (Carrie) Klinkner, and Maria (Dan) Klema; step grandsons, Todd (Kim) and Scott Cromie; 14 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; infant son, Michael; stepson, Michael Cromie; and step grandson, Jason Cromie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta. Father Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Page Smith Funeral Home in Sparta. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Gundersen Lutheran Hospice for the exceptional care that they provided.
