It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen "Joyce" Stevens. She passed away on September 30, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 85.

Helen was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina to the late Ruby and James Hobart Easterling. There she gave birth to her son Andre Lavon White. Helen moved to Washington, DC, where she met her former husband Elliott Stevens and gave birth to her two daughters, Elliott Mariko Steven and Vicky Rena (Stevens) Lewis. The family moved to New York where she built a full life. Her later years were spent with her partner Dan Hill, on cruises with friends and spending time with family. She dedicated over 30 years of hard work as a meat wrapper at Sloans Supermarket to support her children and spoil her grandchildren.

Helen was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom for all who knew her. She will be remembered by her family and lifelong friends for her thoughtfulness, generosity and fearless ability to always tell it like it is. Her memory will be cherished by her brothers James "Brother" Easterling (Barbara-Ann) and William Easterling (Jean), daughter Vicky Lewis, her beloved son-in-law Audley Lewis, her six grandchildren, Dan'nail White (Jessica) Chascydy Smith (Franklin), Donavyn Lewis (Lyric), Sarah White, Cydny Lewis, and Ethan Lewis, 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren along with an extended network of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
