Apostle Helen Louise Cogdell Williams, at the age of 83, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in New Haven, CT. She was born in Greenville, NC on May 22, 1942, to the late Joe Thomas and Senetta (Blackman) May.
She attended and graduated from C.M. Eppes High School in Greenville, NC where she briefly played the clarinet as a member of the school band. In the 10th grade, she became a majorette and cheered for the football team go 'Bulldogs'.
Apostle Cogdell Williams was formally employed by S.N.E.T where she retired after 30 years of service. During her retirement, she served in the public school system as a classroom grandma, offered support and companionship to clients in the New Haven community.
Apostle Cogdell Williams dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age and answered the call to ministry in 1973 during her membership at the Church of God of Prophecy. In 1981 she joined the Pentecostal Church of Prayer & Deliverance under the leadership of the late Bishop Zebedee Stewart where she served on the Pastors Aide Board and held the position of church secretary for 20 years. In 1996 she was ordained as an Elder. In 2000 she became the founding pastor of the True Worship Church, Inc and was consecrated and installed as Overseer (2007) and then as Apostle (2017). She concluded her pastoral service in 2024.
On May 27, 2023, she was united in holy matrimony to her loving husband Melvin Williams who she leaves to cherish her memory along with her two daughters, Rosetta Richardson of Hamden CT, Cynthia (William) Lowery of Hamden CT, one son, Kelvin Cogdell of Boston MA, one sister, Shirley Ann House of Greenville, NC, one brother, Johnny Ray Nobles of Lebanon, MO, two Goddaughters, Tekia (Tiron) Thomas of Bridgeport CT, and Shauntae (Ronald) Barzey of Stamford CT, fourteen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Helen was predeceased by her father and mother, Joe Thomas and Senetta (Blackman) May; one sister Mary May Irvin, one brother-in-law Clenone (Clem) Irvin, three brothers, James Nobles, Joe Maye, and Russell May; one son, Torrey Leon Cogdell.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Cathedral of Higher Praise, Church of God of Prophecy, 155 Grand Avenue, New Haven, CT. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.
