Helena Anne Gannon (née Cardin)

Helena Anne Gannon, 92, of Saco, Maine, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on August 29, 1933, in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Helena was the daughter of Rosario Cardin and Mary Jane "Rose" (Bruneau) Cardin. She made her home in Saco, where she raised her family and became a cherished member of the community.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Eon and husband William, and her son David Gannon and wife Julie. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Anne, whose memory she held dear.

A proud and devoted grandmother, Helena leaves behind grandchildren Marysa (Eon) Santos, Hannah Eon, Kerry (Eon) Townsend, Alexander Gannon, and Jacqueline (Gannon) Murphy. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Marianna and Anthony Santos, and Natalie and Colson Townsend.

Helena is also survived by her siblings Marilyn Cormier, Roland Cardin and wife Patricia, and Rosemary Brener and husband Howard, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Cardin and brother-in-law Robert Cormier.

Helena graduated from Thornton Academy, Class of 1951. After raising her children, she later worked for over 30 years as a medical secretary at Southern Maine Medical Center, where she was known for her professionalism and kindness. Helena was a faithful member of Most Holy Trinity Church for more than five decades. She contributed her time, voice, and spirit to both the church choir and the local Tri-City Community Chorus.

Helena had a lifelong passion for music, theater, needlework, reading, and writing. Her creative spirit reached the wider community through a column she had published in the local newspaper-a source of pride and connection for her and those who read it. Helena was the proud author of A History of Most Holy Trinity Church, a meticulously researched chronicle preserving the heritage of the parish.

Helena's life was guided by enduring faith and a deep love for her family and community. Summer held a special place in her heart, made even more special by the visits from "the Connecticut family". Helena leaves behind a legacy of devotion and grace that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who cared for Helena during her time of need, especially Michelle and the dedicated staff at Cape Memory Care, and Emily from Beacon Hospice.

Family and friends are invited for a period of visitation on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 9:00am – 10:30am at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco, Maine. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am at Most Holy Trinity Church, Saco. Burial will take place in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
