Lucien G. Jacques

Formerly of Biddeford

Good humored heroes often walk amongst us sight unseen. Lucien G. Jacques, 97, of Saco and formerly of Biddeford, was one of them. He passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Seal Rock Healthcare. Though Lou lived a modest life, of modest means, he was always ready to help others less fortunate than him. He easily befriended all those around him with his kindness and sly humor.

He was born in Biddeford on April 27, 1928, a son of Alfred and Amanda (Martineau) Jacques. He was educated from St. Joseph's School and Saint Louis High School.

Lucien served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He was a corporal for the 481th Ordinance Ammunition Company, 379th Ordinance Battalion.

Lucien married his grammar school sweetheart Ruth "Pitou" Bouchard on April 25, 1952, at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford.

He was employed by Saco Lowell Shops, Edwards Plant and the Biddeford Saco Journal for 22 years while Ruth worked in the Mills. In the mid-1970's, the couple moved to Orlando where Lucien worked for Typo Graphics and Ruth stayed home. He was a member of the Winter Park Elks. After spending 22 years in Orlando, they moved back to Biddeford in the late 1990's.

Throughout their lives together, Lou and Pitou were inseparable! In later years, Ruth suffered through progressive stages of Alzheimers disease, becoming unaware of her surroundings, unable to speak coherently, recognize family, friends, or even her husband. Lou lived the marriage vow he made long ago on their wedding day "to love, honor, and serve each other in times of sickness and health until death do you part.' He patiently and lovingly tended to her every need - bathing, dressing, eventually hand feeding her meals and coaching her to chew and swallow - in their tiny Biddeford apartment. Only when he had to be hospitalized to address his own medical needs did he agree to "place" his beloved Pitou at St. Andre Healthcare Facility where she would live for another 4+ years. As soon as he was able, he would visit her daily, arriving mid morning with her favorite ice cream treat and spending the entire day with her through suppertime. He would take her in her wheelchair outside on nicer days, or "visit" elsewhere inside the facility. They would hold hands, sit quietly together. He would calmly speak to her reminiscing their life together. His spirit would soar for days upon any fleeting glimmer of recognition she may exhibit. Ruth passed on October 24, 2015, after 63 years of marriage.

Lou continued living in the apartment for several years after Ruth died, when that became unsustainable, Lou relocated to assisted living at Atlantic Heights and then nursing care at Seal Rock Healthcare where he lived until his passing. Despite his own failing abilities, he was always of good humor and willing to help and charm his fellow residents and staff.

He was predeceased by his siblings Edward, Andrew, Ralph, Imelda, Antoinette, Rose, Annabelle, and Pauline.

He is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11AM Thursday, October 16, 2025 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. Lucien will be interred with his wife Ruth in their family lot. To view Lucien's memorial page or leave an online condolence, please visit www.cotefuneralhome.com

The family would like to thank the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare, and Atlantic Heights for all the tender care and support they gave Lou over the many years he resided there, and to Compassus Hospice in his final weeks.

Lou and his beloved Pitou were inseparable in life. They are now reunited for eternity in God's embrace.
