HELENDENE (Gard) Buhl
Helendene Buhl, 98, Homemaker, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, was born in Coldwater, KS on September 24, 1925 to Fines and Sula Gard. She went to be with our Lord on Augst 16, 2024 in Mulvane, KS. She passed away peacefully of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Herman; her sister, Gwendyne Delp; son-in-law K C Poch; 4 grandchildren, Ronda Bentley, Brandon and Jeremy Jones; Joshua Vance; and great grandson, Caleb Moore.
Helendene is survived by four daughters- Vickie Barrow (Larry) Lake of Bridgeport, Texas; Lana Jones (Clyde) of Wichita, KS; Karen Poch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Connie Feikert (Mike) of Mulvane, KS; 4 grandchildren- Karl Bentley (Linda) of Bridgeport, TX; Michele Moore (Wade) of Wheeler, TX; Chris Jones of Anthony, KS; and Adam Feikert of Haysville, KS; 4 great grandchildren- Colton Moore of Costa Rica; Christoper Kirkpatrick of Harper, KS; Brandon and Alexandria Jones of Anthony, KS.
Helendene spent her early years in Coldwater, KS and graduated from Coldwater High School, where she met Herman. She attended cosmetology school in Garden City, KS. While attending school she married Herman Buhl in January 1946. She worked as a beautician until December 1946 when she gave birth to their first child, a girl. The family moved to a farm soon after this celebration, near Coldwater, KS. They lived there several more years and had 3 more children, all girls, before moving into the town of Coldwater.
In January 1964 the family moved to Greensburg, KS and became owner/operators of the bowling establishment there for 18 years. During the summer months she spent time helping with harvest, and fall through spring would run the bowling establishment. Around 1982 they sold the business. When Herman decided to retire, they found a nice farm, near Arkansas City, KS. They had an opportunity to buy an RV so they traveled for a short time. Soon after Herman became ill then passed in January 2002.
She remained in Arkansas City until 2017 when she decided she would move into assisted living nearer to her daughters. She lived in Mulvane for the remainder of her life.
Helendene was a wonderful, caring, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to so many more. She was not afraid to speak her mind. She never seemed to meet a stranger, and if she did, they usually did not remain strangers very long. She out a smile on anyone's face. She enjoyed playing the slots at the casino, and going on camping trips, when she was up to it. She loved her daughters very much, but certain she loved her grandchildren more. She was a woman who believed in God and let him head her life.

At 13 years of age I was lucky enough to have this beautiful lady become my grandma.
I will remember her bright lips and her even brighter personality. The thing I will remember most and forever is the day she made the comment " exactly the same but different" She sure made us laugh till we had tears in our eyes. Through the years she was teased relentlessly but was always a good sport. Rest in paradise Grandma you deserve it.

She was a wonderful person. And was always a joy to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of loss.

I was very blessed to have this beautiful lady as my Grandma. I know she is celebrating in Heaven with so many who left before her. I will see you again Grandma! I love you dearly!
