Henrick "Dave" Alexander Townsend, 64, was born to the late Grace and Floyd "Porter" Townsend, Jr. on March 6, 1961 on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. He was called home according to the Lord on July 7, 2025 at 12:56 pm at Johns Hopkins Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was educated in the Accomack County Schools, graduating from Chincoteague High School in 1979. In later years, he received certificates from Wor-Wic Community College in electrical work, carpentry, and masonry. He was joined in holy matrimony to long-term partner Amanda Lesa Marshall on December 03, 2020.
Dave was baptized in the name and under the blood of Jesus and had a strong conviction for Christ. He attended both Deas Chapel United Methodist and Tabernacle Baptist Church in Horntown, Virginia. He loved inspirational sermons and took joy in memorizing poems of perseverance, determination, and inspiration. Some of his favorite poems were "Invictus" because of his unconquerable soul and "It Couldn't Be Done" because he didn't give up, regardless of naysayers, without a try.
Dave was a Jack of All Trades with big dreams and a drive to match. He was a car connoisseur, and his passions included luxury vehicles, real estate, and personalized fashion. Dave loved and appreciated the recognition of his out-of-the-box style, possession of high-end cars, and enjoyed showing it. All of which exemplified an expression of his swagger and beloved name, "Dave."
He was a loving, family-oriented man. If there was a family gathering or something to celebrate, Dave would surely be there to support. He took pride in visiting others, feeling his presence may have lifted someone else's spirits. Dave's stylish presence, entrepreneurial mind-set, and go-getter advice could inspire strangers and kin alike, as is apparent by his popularity.
Dave was very loved by his entire family. He was preceded in quietus by his mother and father; sister, Marlene Townsend-Cropper (Roy); and nephew, Royce "Puggie" Townsend. Sadly, only hours after reaching paradise, he was followed by his precious granddaughter, Ke'Asia Morris.
He is survived by his wife; son, Jermaine Ayres (Carlisa); daughter, Yashica "Shica" Hope; step-daughter, Chanta Marshall (Kalen); nine granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers, Floyd "Ricky" Townsend (Robin) and William "Bill" Townsend (Deborah); three sisters, Shirley "Babydoll" Townsend, Ruth "Connie" Townsend, and Grenda "Tinie" Townsend-Hudson (Reginald); and well-respected uncle, James Townsend (Gloria); aunts, Martha Marlo Townsend, Emma Taylor, Brenda Fosque, Rosie Lee Dickerson, and Barbara Jenkins (Vergil); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
