Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marshall Funeral Home and Cremations on Feb. 23, 2026.
Henry B. Chalmers III, lovingly known as Sandy, was promoted to heaven on February 16, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on December 24, 1943. Henry lived a life marked by courage, adventure, service, and generosity. A proud United States Navy submariner, Henry served his country faithfully for 18 years, including during the Vietnam War. The strength, discipline, and quiet bravery he carried as a submarine man stayed with him for the rest of his life.
After his military service, Henry stepped into the early computer industry in the 1970s. He worked with Texas Instruments and later Hewlett-Packard, traveling all over the world during a time when technology was just beginning to reshape the future. He embraced innovation, loved the adventure, and was never afraid to step into something new.
Henry was a builder in every sense of the word. He loved to build houses - and he built every home his family ever lived in with his own hands. He didn't just construct walls and roofs; he built safe places, strong foundations, and memories that will last for generations. If something needed fixing, designing, or figuring out, Henry was the man for the job.
He had a deep love for hot rods and could often be found working on his cars, always improving, always tinkering. He was adventurous and willing to try anything at least once. But above all, Henry loved to help people, expecting nothing in return. That quiet generosity defined him.
One of nine children - six boys and three girls - Henry grew up in a large family that shaped his loyalty and strong sense of commitment. Family was always at the center of his life.
Henry spent 50 years with his loving wife, Caroline. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, travel, and service to one another and to those around them. They were a beautiful example of devotion and partnership; anyone who spent time with them could see it and feel it in the way they cared for each other.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Caroline; his children, Doug Chalmers, Henry Chalmers IV, and Dawn Chalmers; his three grandchildren, Samantha, Jamie, and Henry V; and his three great-grandchildren, William Jr., Jackson, and Jayden, along with his brothers, sisters, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8343 Woolmarket Road,
Biloxi, MS 39532. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 noon.
Henry will be laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with full military honors. Following the burial, family and friends are invited back to the family home for a meal and continued celebration of Henry's remarkable life.
Henry's legacy of service, strength, craftsmanship, adventure, and love will live on in all who knew him. He built homes, he built family, and he built a life well lived.
