MIDDLE GROVE -
John A. Chalmers, age 80, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at his home in Middle Grove, New York, after a brief illness.
Born on March 10, 1945, in Port Chester, New York, to George John and Helen Bassi, John lived a life centered on his family. He was a loving husband and father whose greatest joy came from having everyone together. He was happiest gathered around the TV, sharing a good meal, and chatting about current events with his loved ones. Taking care of the people he loved was not just something John did — it was who he was.
John is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Chalmers; his sons, John, Nick and his wife Alexis, and Anthony; his brother, Paul and sister-in-law Sue; as well as his cherished nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, George; his sister, Catherine; and his nephew, David. John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional medical team at Saratoga Hospital for their excellent care, and to the compassionate staff of The Community Hospice. Special thanks to Laurie for her kindness and devoted care, which allowed John to pass peacefully and comfortably at home.
