Henry W. Haas, a dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, at the age of 84 at Crossroads House. Born on Sunday, August 3rd, 1941, in Buffalo, Henry spent his life committed to serving his community and country.

A resident of Varysburg, NY, Henry is survived by his children, H. Wayne (Kathy) Haas of Christiansburg, VA, and Michelle D. (Bryan) Bailey of Bath; grandfather to Matthew Haas, Alex (Laura) Bailey, Christopher Bailey, Luke Bailey, and Chase Bailey. Henry shared his life with his "sweetheart," friend, and best pal, Carolyn Almeter, with whom he resided since 2001. He also leaves behind Carolyn's sons, Brian Almeter and Ben Almeter, and her grandchildren, Mike, Kate, and Kris. Henry's extended family includes five step-sons, Perry Perkins, Terry Perkins, Craig Perkins, Daniel Thompson, and William Briggs, along with their families, which include several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, David C. (Cindy) Haas of East Aurora, and his sister, Carolyn D. (late Stan) Minko of Orchard Park.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. Haas and Ida L. Walker Haas.

Henry's distinguished career with the New York State Police spanned 39 years, beginning on June 10, 1965. He served as a uniformed trooper for 9 years before transitioning to a plain clothes investigator role in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop A, Batavia, for 30 years. He retired in 2000 but returned to serve as a Special Investigator post-9/11, working for an additional four years.

A retired military veteran, Henry served in the US Coast Guard from 1960-64 as a Gunners Mate aboard a Coast Guard Cutter in New York City and Adak, Alaska. In 1976, he rejoined the Coast Guard Reserves, serving 16 more years with the Marine Safety Office and a port security unit in Buffalo, completing a total of 20 years of service.

Beyond his official duties, Henry was a man of many interests. He sold real estate with Nothnagle Realtors in Batavia from 1979-1999, worked as an independent agent for the Wyoming County District Attorney as an investigator from 2008 to the present, and also served part-time as an independent agent for Genesee Valley Transportation Railroad in Batavia.

Henry attended Folsomdale Baptist Church in Cowlesville and actively participated in several organizations, including the Batavia Chapter AFNYST (Association of Former New York State Troopers), the American Legion Attica Post, the NRA, Wyoming County SCOPE, the Wyoming County Veterans Club in Warsaw, and the Auxiliary of the Varysburg Fire Department.
