Obituary published on Legacy.com by John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. on Nov. 8, 2025.
Henry Simon Krochmal passed away November 5, 2025, at the age of 81. He was the husband of Margaret Krochmal. They resided in Windsor, CT for many decades together. Henry was born in
Meriden, Connecticut on October 8, 1944, to the late Henry and Ilka (Zollschan) Krochmal. He is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Karin and her spouse Richard of New Haven, CT, his son Robert and his spouse Donna of Topanga, CA, and his son Michael of Park City, UT. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren he shares with his ex-wife Carol Krochmal- Sofia (22) and Luci (16) of Topanga, CA, Cole (21) of Park City, UT and Zane (20) of Raleigh, NC.
Henry was a graduate of Platt High School in
Meriden, CT. In junior high, he was affectionately known as "Hammering Hank," having slugged many home runs for his baseball team. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Henry spent some years teaching high school chemistry before moving into a career in computer programming, becoming one of the earliest experts in the now archaic programming languages of Assembly and COBOL. He was an engaging and humorous storyteller, recalling with wonder his own astonishment with some of the first programs he wrote for the Department of Motor Vehicles, during the era of punch cards, which allowed information that had previously taken hours by hand, to be done in mere seconds on the computer.
He was a logical and thoughtful thinker and loved reading and writing, particularly about the developments in theoretical physics and unraveling the mysteries of the universe. He also loved bluegrass music, attending small local gatherings and festivals for many years. He sought out spontaneous jams and cultivated his ability to sing harmony, winning acceptance with many of the musicians he looked up to the most.
Henry loved his family and was a devoted father who spent time with his children reading, helping with homework, patiently teaching tennis and skiing, and supporting their progress and milestones throughout their lives. Like his late brother Paul, he possessed a gentle eccentricity and a big heart and nonjudgmental spirit, treating everyone he met with respect and courtesy. His memory will be a blessing and good works be carried on in the example of his life and teaching.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service to be held on Friday, November 14th at 10 a.m. at the B'nai Abraham Cemetery, 114 Corrigan Avenue,
Meriden, CT 06451, where Henry will be laid to rest alongside his late parents, brother Paul, and grandmothers Ida and Adele. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the cemetery and there are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street,
Meriden, CT 06450. For online condolences, please visit jferryfh.com. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Henry, please visit our floral store.
