Master Gunnery Sergent, Henry E. Landers, age 78, of Woodstock, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Marietta on December 1, 2024. Henry was a decorated Marine who served in Vietnam, defending this great nation.
MGySgt. Henry Landers was born on June 15, 1946, in Atlanta, GA, the son of Frederick Paul and Essie Mae Landers. Henry took on the challenge of becoming a United States Marine in 1964. He attended bootcamp at Marine Corps. Recruit Depot, Parria Island, South Carolina. He lived the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. During his military career, he held many prestigious positions, from the legendary Marine Corps Drill Instructor to the MGySgt of the 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He held many awards, from his service in Vietnam to include, 2 Navy Unit Citations, 2 Presidential Unit Citations. The 2 awards he spoke of the least were his Purple Hearts. During his illustrious 30-year career, he reached the highest rank an enlisted Marine could obtain. He influenced and touched the lives of thousands of Marines during his career, and to this day, many use him as an example for them to emulate.
Not only was he a Marine, but after retirement he worked at Kincade Elementary School in Cobb County as the Facility Manager. His passion for whatever job he held or took on was always on display by his Integrity, Honor, Love and his passion. Henry retired from Cobb County School System as Facility Manager at Kincade Elementary School in May 2012.
Henry was a man of high morals and values. He had an aura about him that generated energy that was magnetic. He had a dominant presence that would yield immediate respect.
Henry was a loving husband and father first. From the first time he laid eyes on his adoring wife, he instantly knew he had found his forever and remained faithful for 46 years until Jodi passed away on November 4, 2010.
Henry Landers, aka Tinker, is survived by his son, Lou Landers, daughter, Tina Landers; grandchildren, Stephen Landers, Amy Landers, Casey Landers, Scott Landers, Kristina Landers, Ashley Landers; 13 great grandchildren and an abundance of family and friends who will continue to honor him and carry on his legacy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday December 17th from 9:00 Am to 11:00 Am at Poole Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Tuesday December 17th 11:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Chapel of Poole Funeral Home; 1970 Eagle Dr, Woodstock, GA 30189 with Pastor Shannon Sayler officiating.
The Interment will be held on Tuesday December 17th at 1:30pm at Georgia National Cemetery 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114
