Henry Harvey McCuen

Henry Harvey McCuen was born January 26th, 1937, the 4th of 5 children. He moved to Orenco as a young child and then to Helvetia when he was seven. Henry loved growing up on the farm, surrounded by dairy cows, chickens and crops. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1957, then joined the Navy.

Henry married Linda Brown in 1965. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary in March. They had four children: Barbie, Steve, Tom and Wendy. He felt his biggest accomplishment was building their house from the ground up.

Henry worked for Haley's Fine Foods until it closed in the 1980s. He then tried his hand at many different jobs to support his family, finally settling in as a handyman, until retiring in 2019. He was an energizer bunny who never wanted to stop working.

Working the hay fields and being around cattle made Henry happy. He loved being outdoors, whether gardening or hunting.

Henry was known for his friendliness and sense of humor. He often seemed shy at first, but if given a chance, he could be talkative. Bring up the topics of cars, sports or farming and Henry could really talk.

Helvetia Community Church was the cornerstone of Henry's spiritual life for most of his years. He also attended Bethany Baptist, Dayspring Christian Fellowship and Christian Church of Hillsboro.

Henry is survived by his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
