Henry (Hank) R. Weinert of Coxsackie, NY, passed away at his home on July 21, 2025. He was 80. Born on March 3, 1945, to Max W. and Mary S. Weinert (née Pogorzelski), and raised in Purling , NY, he moved to Coxsackie in 1970. Prior to his 1963 graduation from Cairo High School, he joined the Carpenter's Union embarking on a lifelong passion for construction and woodworking. He enlisted in the Navy Construction Battalion (SeaBees) and served one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967 as a member of the MCB 74 in Da Nang and Dong Ha. Hank excelled at every position he held: Beginning his career as a carpenter apprentice within a few short years, he was foreman and superintendent of nursing home construction in the northeast. His favorite job was Construction Manager for Schoenborn Farms in Coxsackie, designing and building barns. In 1984, he hired on as general mechanic at the Greene Correctional Facility retiring as Plant Superintendent in 2002. Hank was an avid fisherman, a teller of riddles and jokes, lover of horses and all things related to the 'western frontier'- and considers the several cattle drives he participated in to be among his great joys in life. Many knew Hank as an exceptionally talented woodworker-and so, too, did the avian world: birdhouses ranging from the unpretentious to the whimsical populate upstate New York. He leaves behind his wife, Theresa (née Liscia), whom he referred to as "the love of my life". Hank is also survived by: sons Todd (Jennifer Fountain) of Sarasota, Florida, and Matthew (Viet Dinh) of Newark, Delaware; two step daughters, Gabrielle VanGurp (née Kurdt) of Hannacroix, and Danielle Churchill-Scaperotti of Menands; one step son, Ben Kurdt of Albany; sisters Diane Grego of Cohoes and Ann VanDervort of Delmar; grandchildren Corinna, Jordan, and Christopher of Florida, and a great-granddaughter, Ryann, also of Florida; six step grandchildren; nieces Arianna Hirschman and Regina Grego of Cohoes; and a nephew, Michael Maguire,of Delmar. Towards the end of this life, he experienced a spiritual rebirth; sharing with others that, "God is my Savior, I'm not afraid". Hank was an extraordinary man who will be painfully missed by all those whose lives he touched. Visitation is from 5:30-7:00 pm PM, Friday, August 8 at Gospel Community Church, Coxsackie, NY, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 pm In lieu of flowers, you may donate, in Henry's memory, to the Veterans Miracle Center, 10 Interstate Ave, Albany, NY 12205

Met Hank many years ago @ Christmas parties of my good, nearby neighbor....got to realize how super- skilled a woodworker and carpenter.....and above all, what a kind, best-natured man always when I ran into him. It's no wonder he enjoyed such universal friendship and appreciation for his constant great demeanor.
Be well, good neighbor...

I have so many memories of Hank but my favorite is, after one of my "I should go to college" comments while perusing a Columbia-Greene course catalog, he looked at me over his coffee cup and said, "Why don't you stop talking about it and do it?" It was just the incentive I needed and many nights and weekends later I earned my Bachelor's. I will be forever grateful to him for that challenge.

To Matt, Todd and his lovely wife Theresa I send my deepest condolences. May memories of his silly sense of humor, incredible work ethic and vast creativity sustain you at this time of sorrow.

What a gifted gentleman. His bird houses adorn my home. He also installed beadboard in my bathroom years ago. My Aunt Fay (RIP) and sister Laurie would imagine pieces, and Hank would create them. Sincere sympathy to Teresa and Hank´s whole clan.

Condolences Theresa and all of Hank's family. He'll long be remembered fondly at the Firehouse for his work ethic, his sense of humor and his skill at Poker. May he rest in peace.
