Herbert Yolitz, age 90, of Wausau, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Pride TLC.
Herb was born on December 10, 1934, in Wausau to the late William and Alma (Borchardt) Yolitz. He married the love of his life, Sally Henning, on June 27, 1959, and together they raised four children- Lori, Julie, Clark, and Scott. Sally preceded him in death on November 18, 1995, and Herb carried her love with him always.
Herb proudly served his country in the Army and later enjoyed countless Army reunions throughout the US with his friend Mary Ann. After his service, he drove for Neuendorf/ANR Freight for 36 years. A true outdoorsman, Herb loved hunting, fishing, and time at North Star Lodge-usually with an ice-cold Pepsi or a good old-fashioned in hand with polka music playing in the background. He spent summers camping with his family and friends at Fox Fire in Woodruff for 45 years, was a proud member of Bill’s Musky Club for over 50 years, and was a loyal Packers and Brewers fan. A highlight was attending the 1997 Super Bowl with his buddy Elroy.
Faith was also central to Herb's life. At St. Stephen Lutheran Church, he could be found ushering, trimming the Christmas tree, or organizing clothing drives-including founding Coats for Kids.
Above all, Herb was a family man. Nothing brought him more joy than cheering on his kids and grandkids in everything they did. His humor, love of life, and big heart will be dearly missed
Herb is survived by his children, Lori (Scott) Rusch, Julie (Bob) Baumann, Clark (Jodi) Yolitz, Scott (DeAnn) Yolitz; 10 grandchildren, Tim (Kayleigh) Myszka, Kimberly (Tyler) Kiedrowski, Allison (Blake) Artis, Corey (Melissa) Yolitz, John (Kayley) Baumann, Samantha (Garrick) Day, Michael (Courtney) Baumann, Derek (Paige) Yolitz, Andrew Yolitz (Abby Owen), and Melinda Yolitz (Scott Brummond); 14 great grandchildren, Beau, Bree, Ella, Lenore, Silas, Evelyn, James, Kali, Croix, Logan, Parker, Crew, Conrad, and Gabe; and special friend, Mary Ann Krausz. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; brothers, Wilbert and David Yolitz; and sisters, Elva Rastl, LaVerne Hettinga, Lucille Merriam, and Joyce Weber.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan St., Wausau. Visitation will take place 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
