Herbert E. “Herb”Adams, 83, of Gibsonburg, passed away surrounded by family at his home on December 8, 2024. He was born in Olney, Illinois, on June 11, 1941, to Eldo William and Lela (Storer) Adams. Herb graduated from East Richland High School in 1959 and attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in agriculture. In 1963, he bravely joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1967. On September 14, 1964, he married Judy Whitaker in Robinson, IL, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing. Following his service in the military, Herb earned his law degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He was an attorney for over 50 years as well as a county court judge until finally retiring in December of 2012.
Throughout his life, Herb remained greatly involved with his community. He was a member of the Fremont Masons Chapter 64 Brainard Lodge, Zenobia Shrine, a past member of the Sandusky County Bar Association and the Association of Municipal and County Judges, a past Commander of the Fremont Power Squadron, a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, and a member of Shiloh Church in Helena, Ohio. In his free time, Herb enjoyed woodworking, boating, fishing, traveling, playing bagpipes with the highlanders and volunteering with 4-H.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Adams of Gibsonburg; children, Jason Clark Adams of Gibsonburg, Laura Page (Andy) Lindsay of Dayton; grandchildren, Justin Adams, Adam, Oscar and Isaac Lindsay; brother, Roy Dean Adams of Sarasota, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Adams.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4: 00 PM and 6:00 pm to 8:00 PM, with Masonic Services at 7:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431. Additional visiting will take place Friday, December 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the start of funeral services with military honors at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Holcomb will officiate. For those unable to attend, live-streaming of services will be available by following the link on his obituary page.
Burial of Herb’s urn will take place at a later date in Olney, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shiloh Church, 259 Main Street, Helena, OH, 43435.
