Herbert Andrews, 75 was a beloved family man who brought laughter and joy to all who knew him. Herb departed this world on January 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, leaving a legacy of happiness and cherished moments.
Herb was born on July 15, 1948. Herb grew up in Elmhurst with a passion for life that never waned. His infectious laughter and warm smile were constants, making him a beacon of light in the lives of those fortunate enough to call him family and friends. Herb's journey through life took him to serve in the US Army during Vietnam, serving as a door gunner on helicopters.
Herb's life was marked by an unwavering love for his family and a deep appreciation for his two favorite sports teams-the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He could often be found cheering them on with unparalleled enthusiasm. Herb's love for sports became a shared experience, bringing together family and friends to celebrate victories and commiserate in defeats.
In 1972, Herb's life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Denise while driving past a church picnic at Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Their love story blossomed into a lifelong journey filled with shared dreams, laughter, and countless cherished moments. Together, they built a family of four children that became the center of Herb's universe, until he was blessed with daughters-in-law a son-in-law, and the greatest grandchildren (and then great-grandchildren) that there ever were. Denise and Herb's bond stood as a testament to enduring love, weathering the storms of life with grace and resilience. Herb's love knew no bounds when it came to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a pillar of support, a source of guidance, and a constant source of humor. Herb's family gatherings were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the warmth of his presence.
His love of baseball grew from his time on the semi-pro team where he shared his passion with his children, serving as coach for their baseball and football teams, and eventually became the President of the Baseball League. During that time Herb was instrumental in having a baseball field set up at Berens Park and was always giving back to the community.
A dedicated entrepreneur, Herb was the proud owner of Herb's Landscaping-a business that flourished under his care and dedication. His passion for landscaping extended beyond the professional realm; Herb's green thumb transformed gardens and his prized yard. Herb had a great accomplishment by orchestrating the involvement of each of his children in the Landscaping company. The dedication and time he invested in each child laid the foundation for prosperous relationships and opportunities that will resonate throughout their lives. This legacy is poised to have a substantial impact on generations to come.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife of over 50 years Denise nee Doyle; Children Herbert (Laura) Andrews II, Bridget (Doyle) Osburn, Scott (Anna) Andrews, and Robert (Mary) Andrews; Grandchildren Scott (Jailene), Jordan, Jazmyn, Christopher, and Josephine; Great Grandchildren Mila and Messiah; Siblings Mary Anne, Warren, and Betty Jean; several of his beloved nieces and nephews; and many other friends and family that understood when he said he had something for them.

I will never forget Herbie we were in the same class room from K through 8th grade at Churchville School. One day we were having a spelling test and Mrs Carstens said, " Depot" and
Out loud Herbie said, " OH yah De Pot". Mrs Carstens said, " all right everyone should get that one right".
