Herbert "Herb" Elling

Herbert "Herb" Elling, 70, of rural Liberty Center, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home. He was born on August 25, 1955, in Napoleon, Ohio, to Eldor and Marcile "Sally" (Nye) Elling.

Herb was a 1975 graduate of Liberty Center High School and Four County Vocational Center. He spent several years working as a truck driver for Exceed Landscaping. Known for his hands-on skills, Herb took great pride in rebuilding his 1969 Nova, a true reflection of his love for classic muscle cars.

Herb found peace in the outdoors. Whether cutting firewood, hunting mushrooms, or simply enjoying time outside, he was happiest when surrounded by nature. He valued hard work, simplicity, and spending time with those he loved most.

Above all else, Herb was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teresa (Snyder) Elling; his children, Chad (Danielle) Elling, Andy (Nichole) Elling, and Kelly (Mike) Keysor; and his grandchildren, Jacob (Sara) Keysor, Delaney Keysor, Adalyn Elling, Kinley Elling, Benjamin Elling, Landen Elling, Caleb Elling, and Mariah Gerken. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Rice, and his brother, Mike (Jackie) Elling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom and Jim Elling; and his brother-in-law, Sam Rice.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home in Napoleon, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. A private Interment will take place at Heath-Colton Cemetery on Monday January 19th.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Children's Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
