Herbert Hoover Ewing, age 97 years, of Plymouth, MA, formerly of Detroit, MI, died Sunday, March 19, 2023 at his home in Plymouth, MA. He was the husband of the late Duette Rose (Morton) Ewing, and the son of the late Luther and Mattie (Chatman) Ewing. Born on March 14, 1926 in Cordova, Tennessee, he was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was the driver of the M-1 tank with the rank of Corporal, and was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, the United Nations Medal with Bronze service stars, and the National Defense service medal.
Herbert loved Detroit, the Motor City, Motown. He loved the people, the music and the soul of the City, and always talked about returning. Although he loved being with his family, he still missed his extended family and friends surrounding Pembridge Place, his beautifully awesome condo.
Herbert worked as a foreman and relief man at General Motors Corporation in Livonia, MI for thirty years, and was a member of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW). Herbert was fortunate enough to travel worldwide during his lifetime, first during his service in the Military, and then extensively with his Wife, Duette and children. He loved to stop in at the Casinos, whether in Las Vegas or Detroit, where he might be found at the Poker or Black Jack table playing a few hands. However, the proudest achievement of his life was the success and quality of the lives of his children and grandchildren.
The last of seventeen children, Herbert is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Ewing of Mill Valley, CA, Sandra Miller and her husband James of Plymouth, MA, and Herbert "Tim" Ewing and his wife Monica of Atlanta, GA, his grandchildren, Austin (Reina), Chaise, MacKenzie (Karla) Ewing, and Jeremy and Jared Miller, as well as, his beloved great grandchildren Aidyn, Asher, Harley and Hendryx, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Herbie was a good man, great father and grandfather. We called him the "Boss" because he did things his way, to the very end.
