Herbert M. Frederick, 88, of Souderton, PA, died peacefully on September 12, 2025.

Herb was born June 22, 1937, to Nelson and Mary (Miller) Frederick. On October 15, 1960, he married the love of his life, Janet Bergey, with whom he enjoyed life for 64 years and 11 months. Together, they built a home in Hatfield, PA where they lived until 2023 when they moved to Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Herb loved God and was a man of great faith, believing steadfastly in God's promise of eternal salvation. He attended Salem Mennonite Church in Quakertown, PA for most of his adult life and influenced the lives of many young adults in his roles at Salem including Sunday School teacher, song leader, usher, trustee, boys club leader, and member of the pastoral care team. Herb and Janet opened their home and provided a listening ear to many young adults as Youth Advisors for more than 14 years. Activities included camping trips, hayrides, baseball games, preparing Christmas food boxes, caroling, tobogganing, and hiking.

He also had a heart for service and a passion for helping others. He and Janet often provided rides to church for those without transportation, and they visited shut-in congregants and community members. Together with Janet, he volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service, in the kitchen at Spruce Lake, and helped prepare Bethany Birches for summer campers. As an electrician, he volunteered his skills to help in the construction of buildings at Spruce Lake, Bethany Birches, and at Salem. He also served as an orderly in 1-W Service in a Denver, Colorado hospital.

After graduating from Souderton High School, Herb worked briefly for Longacre Poultry and American Olean Tile before working as an electrician for Bergey's Electric for 44 years. In his leisure time, Herb loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Flyers games, fishing, reading his Bible, birdwatching, gardening, and trains. He spent his later years traveling with his wife and spending time with their children and grandchildren. He was always quick to lend a hand, say a kind word, and offer a heartfelt smile.

In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by 3 children: Mary Anne Royal (Howard Tabachnick), Steven (Evelyn) Frederick, and Kevin (Elizabeth) Frederick; 2 sisters: Catherine and Elizabeth Frederick; 6 grandchildren: Janalyn Frederick Thompson (Zachary), Deanna Joyce Frederick (Nicholas Prueitt), Shane Frederick, Charlotte Frederick, Lia Frederick, and Colin Frederick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Mary Frederick, his sister, Lillian Frederick, his brother, Earl Frederick, and his son-in-law, Dewey Royal.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 2 PM at Salem Mennonite Church (41 E. Cherry Road, Quakertown, PA 18951). There will be visitation immediately after the service at Salem Mennonite Church. You can livestream the service here.

The family would like to thank their friends, family, and church family for their love and support throughout the years and to the healthcare and dining services staff at Souderton Mennonite Homes during his short stay there.
