Joyce Adell Frederick, age 97, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home, on September 26, 2025.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 6, 1927 to her parents, the late Dora (née Bertrum) and Alton Frederick and younger sister to the late Glenn (Barbara). In 1940, the family purchased 5 acres on Ann Arbor Trail in Plymouth Township. Joyce was 12 years old and she continued to live there for the next 84 years.
As a lifetime resident of Plymouth and graduate of Plymouth High School, she was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the history of Plymouth over the last 80 years! She spent many years working at the bank as an Office Manager and was responsible for successfully getting new locations up and running.
Joyce was passionate about art! All kinds of art. She herself was a gifted artist and has a multitude of paintings to her credit. She was a long-time member of the Three Cities Art Club. In addition to painting, Joyce loved to read. She had an extensive library of books on everything from Gardening and Art to Health and Wealth Management. She also loved to “travel” by reading a plethora of magazines which took her all around Michigan and the world.
In addition to her family and friends, Joyce loved animals. They were a huge part of her life. She especially loved horses, of which she owned 2. She also enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She loved nothing more than spending time working around her home, which she cared for by herself until the age of 96. She was our “go to person” with any question about trees, flowers, or plants.
As anyone who knew her would tell you, Joyce was one-of-a kind! She was determined, independent, and extremely generous. Not only to her family, but to the many causes she felt close to. As the matriarch of the Frederick family, she will be greatly missed. To all who had the pleasure of knowing her, know you have been blessed.
Joyce is survived by her nephews, Mark Frederick, Rahn (Annette) Frederick, Rick (Terry) Frederick, Kirk (Linda) Frederick and niece-in-law, Dawn (Ralph) Gaikowski and a great-niece and nephews, Ryan (Kelly) Frederick, Melissa (Mario) Poole, Jason (Naniko) Frederick, Kyle (Melissa) Frederick, Cody (Kate) Frederick and Justin Frederick. She is also survived by six great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her nephew Brad Frederick.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, on Saturday, October 4, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with her funeral service starting at 1:00PM. Following her service, Joyce will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, Michigan
