Herbert Stanley Greer

Herbert Stanley Dalarie Greer, 70, of McKeesport was born October 20, 1954, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of the late Robert S. and Ella M. Burgess Greer.

Herbert faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged following his service. Herb graduated from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina in General Studies program.

Herbert, affectionately known as "Herb, Herbie or Daryl but on the grill, he was referred to as Uncle Frank." He was a true jack of all trades, skilled as a concrete mason and finisher, but his greatest passion was always driving. For more than a decade, he traveled long distances. First working for some of the most prominent trucking companies, and later becoming an independent owner-operator, proudly running his own truck.

When he chose to step away from life on the road, Herb continued to share his knowledge and experience by becoming a driving instructor at All-State Career School - Pittsburgh Campus. He also served as a CDL examiner, teaching with patience, humor, and the deep pride he held for the profession he loved. Herb was an active member of Booker T. Washington Lodge #218 Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, Inc. in McKeesport. He currently served as Inner Guard and was previously Chairman of the House Committee. You might see Herb on many occasions sporting his purple and gold "Members Only" jacket around and about the city.

On August 30, 2025, Herb passed peacefully at his home. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion that will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He found joy in cooking, singing, and traveling, but nothing compared to the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Family gatherings were the highlight of his life, where his warm spirit and infectious laugh could light up any room. Herb will be remembered not only for his many talents and accomplishments, but for the way he loved fiercely, fully, and without reservation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Ella M. Burgess Greer, siblings Dementria (Cochi) Henderson, Eugenia (Jean) Rochelle, and Katherine (Jenny) Greer.

Herb leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories, his children, Tomeka Thames, Daryl Greer, Majestie Johnson, Daniel Greer, Eddie (Charmaine) McMillian, Channing (Avram) Trotman, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings: Ronald Greer, Timothy Greer, LaSonne Wooten, Larinda Branch, Earl Henderson, Hope Lynn Henderson, Victor C. Henderson, Tim Henderson, Louis Henderson, significant other, Sharon Johnson; his favorite niece Sabrina; nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles; hosts of cousins and dear friends.
