Herbert (Herbie) Moederndorfer, 91, of
Aurora, IL, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Herbie was born 4/6/1934 in
Milwaukee, WI, the son of Josef & Louise (Griesbach) Moederndorfer.
Herbie served in the Army Corp of Engineers and was honorably discharged. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. and retired after 40yrs, proudly holding a patent.
He was a member of Tiger Club, Phoenix Club and Aurora Turners Club.
Herbie married the love of his life, Betty (Anderson) on 3/31/1956 in
Milwaukee, WI. The two peas in a pod were married for 67 fun filled, hilarious, adventurous, and never a dull moment years, until Betty's passing in January 2024. They had two amazing daughters, Janine (Michael) Keating and Nadine (Jerome) Shoemaker.
Herbie continued to live his life to the fullest right up until the very end. He traveled and had a close-knit group of friends whom he cherished. He enjoyed meeting his friends to watch sports, attend parties, go to the theater, road trips to Madison and enjoying a Miller Lite or a glass of CRW.
Herbie touched many lives, young and old. He was a role model and idol to everyone he met. Most of all he loved people. He never met a stranger. He was known for his jokes, puns, and one-liners.
Herbie especially loved building birdhouses using all the corks supplied by all the local bars/restaurants with the perfection of his engineer's touch. He loved his daily crossword puzzles (in INK), and was an avid Wisconsin fan (Packers, Brewers, Badgers).
Remaining to cherish Herbie's memory are; children, Janine (Michael) Keating, Nadine (Jerome) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Alison (Christopher) Orebaugh, Anthony Shoemaker, Rhyan (Courteney) Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Ayla, Reznor, Miles, Rhayden, Ruby, Herbie, Libby, Rhocko; brother, Kurt; sisters, Eva Kolberg, Herta Ziebell, Hilda (Gary) Ellis, Louise Zidlicky; many cherished nieces and nephews, and all his treasured friends!
Preceding Herbie in death are spouse, Betty; parents, Josef & Louise; brothers, Fritz, Joe, Hans.
Per Herbie's wishes he was cremated with no fanfare. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date at one of his local watering holes, as he would have wanted, where we can raise a glass, share memories, and stories of a life lived to the fullest to the very end!
