Herbert A Smith

Herb A. Smith passed away on April 13, 2025 at Marshfield Hospital, Marshfield, WI. He was born to Merville H. and Dorothy (Seyffer) Smith on April 24, 1946 in Durand, WI where he lived his entire life. Herb graduated from Durand High School and then attended UW Eau Claire. He married Diana Tiffany on May 18, 1965 they later divorced. Herb battled many health issues in the past 4 years and fought to live with each one.
Herb was an avid fisherman and would fish 7 days a week if he could. He passed on the love of fishing to several of his grandkids. He was just as passionate about golf and was hard to beat in cards. He started his career in the insurance business working with his dad at M.H. Smith Insurance and took over the business in 1987. He served many in the community and made many friends along the way. He sold the business in 2005 and completely retired in 2015.
Herb is survived by his daughters Sherry Montroy and Tammy LaPorte, 6 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren a brother Bill Smith, Rochester, sister Patty Smith (Jon) Pfeilsticker, sister-in-law Brenda Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandsons Jordan and Cameron Montroy, brothers John and Dennis, sister Peggy Johnson, brother-in-law Jerry Johnson and sister-in-law Mary Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00PM-3:00PM Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand.
