Herman L. (Ben) Benedict, age 93, of Marshfield passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on August 4, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He was the devoted husband of Virginia (Nunan) Benedict for 68 years and most loving, caring and devoted father of Maurene Crothers (husband Patrick), Diane V. Benedict, Brian Benedict (partner Sherry) and Jacqueline Bazzinotti (late husband Bill); and cherished grandfather of Brian, Benjamin, Corinne, Kailey, and great-granddaughter Dresden. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Alison.
Ben was born in Natick on January 31, 1929 to Herman and Ruby Benedict of Newport, Nova Scotia. Growing up, Ben mostly resided in Weymouth. For a few years during the depression Ben lived on a family farm in Nova Scotia. He often spoke of this time fondly. After graduating from Weymouth High School, Ben joined the Army and served in the Korean War. It was around this time that he met his future wife, Virginia. After completing his time in the Army, Ben graduated from Northeastern University and Bentley College then married his soul mate Virginia.
Ben was a dedicated employee to the Bell System then AT&T for more than 30 years. He later went on to work for Home Depot for a couple more decades. Ben had fortitude.
Ben and Virginia raised their family in South Weymouth then Marshfield. Ben was dedicated to his family. He was the most loving, caring husband and father anyone could have. His family will forever miss him, his love, strength, wisdom and guidance. He will always live in their hearts.
Bens favorite hobby was flying. He loved to take his then young children up flying with him. That was thrilling and is fondly memorable for all. Ben was a jack of all trades and liked to fix everything. He was kind and often was the first to jump in to help where/when he could. He cared deeply about family genealogy & spent much time researching and documenting the family tree.
Ben was fiercely independent to the end. He lived and died on his own terms and never complained. He was brave, funny, kind, thoughtful, brilliant and selfless.
Ben will be deeply missed forever by all who knew him.
