Blue Funeral Home & Cremation Services in GorevilleHerman Jenkins passed away on November 13, 2025, at Parkway Manor in Marion. He was born March 2, 1933, on the family farm in Goreville, Illinois. He was the son of Bertis and Elza May Jenkins.
He was united in marriage to Elaine on June 19, 1955, together they shared 61 years of marriage until her passing in 2016.
On June 12, 2018, he married Phyllis Grant and she survives.
He was a proud member of the United States Army and fought during the Korean War. He spent his working career of over 30 years with Jenkins Excavating, where he used his skills as a heavy equipment operator. He was also a cattle farmer. He lived with spirit and never sat still. He had energy that kept him moving, working, and accomplishing. His hands were never idle, and his days were always full. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, riding his John Deere tractor on the farm and watching television. He attended the Lick Creek Pentecostal Church with his wife, Phyllis.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his daughter Katrina (Scottie) Jeter; his grandsons Tim (Amber) Gower, Jordan Jeter; his great grandsons Timmy Gower, Jr., Nick Gower; stepson Zandle (Lisa) Morse; step grandchildren Tyler Morse, Chloe Morse and Hannah Morse; step daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Morse; sister-in-law Barbara Jenkins along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Elaine Jenkins; stepson Wesley Morse and his brother Carl Jenkins.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville, Illinois. An additional hour of visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville from 12 to 1 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM with Pastor Kenneth Perry officiating. Internment will take place at the Friendship Cemetery in Goreville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Honor Flight or St Jude Children’s Research. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
