Herman Lee. Windley Sr.

Herman Lee Windley, Sr. was born on February 8, 1938, in Beaufort County, North Carolina, to the late Harold and Callie Windley. On September 15, 2025, he peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest.

Herman was educated in the Beaufort County Schools before beginning his lifelong career as a master carpenter. With remarkable skill and attention to detail, he became well respected in his trade, known for building with both strength and beauty. He poured pride, patience, and precision into every project, earning the admiration of all who knew his work.

A man of deep faith, Herman was a devoted member of Amazing Grace Church of God in Christ in Chocowinity, NC. His faith guided his life, and he served his church community with dedication, love, and humility.

In 1959, Herman met the love of his life, Emma Carter Windley, who remains to cherish his memory. After a brief courtship of just one month, they were joyfully united in marriage on March 22, 1959. Their union was blessed with five children: Herman Jr./Gino, Danny, Teresa, Nita Faye, and Pam.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Callie Windley; his son, Danny Windley Sr.; his daughters, Teresa Moore and Pamela Starkie; his siblings, Anna Marie Graham, Shirley Mackey, and James Windley; and his grandchildren, Latoya Greene and Mario Windley.

Herman's legacy continues through the family he deeply loved. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Emma Carter Windley; his daughters, Nita Canady (Ronald) of Washington, NC, and Shirley Tooms of Chase City, VA; his sons, Danny Windley Jr. (Stephanie) of Washington, NC, and Herman Windley Jr. of Raleigh, NC; one sister Minister Ann Williams (Pastor Nathaniel Williams) of Chocowinity, NC; his sister in laws Queen Stanley (Robert) of Belhaven, NC and Palestine Bremby of Washington, NC; 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a special son, Billy Ebron.

Herman will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, gentle spirit, and warm sense of humor. His devotion to family, faith, and craftsmanship will remain an enduring example to all who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held following afternoon, Saturday September 27, 2025, at 1:00pm at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service.
