Hermelinda Velasquez Gonzales, who was affectionately known as Momo, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born in El Paso, Texas on October 28, 1927, and was loved by all who knew her. Her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family will always be remembered. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Staff Sergeant Sylvester Gonzales; parents, Felipe and Herlinda Velasquez; brothers: Eduardo and Jorge; and sisters, Julia, Josephine, Angela, and Inez. Momo is survived by her daughters and their families: daughter, Dolores G. Herrera (Rick), granddaughter Victoria Herrera Bocanegra (Rudy), great grandchildren, RJ and Faith; daughter Sylvia Tenorio (Pete), grandson Derrick Alvarado (Jackie), great grandchildren Derrick Ill and Lilly; granddaughter Saleena Martinez (Ernest), great grandchildren Olivia and Aiden; daughter Herlinda Bourassa (David), granddaughter Samantha Bourassa, Grandson David S. Bourassa (Katie), great grandson Luke; daughter Carmen Gonzales-Williams (Fran), granddaughter McKenzie Gonzales-Williams; and her sister Concha Olszewski, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Momo was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother who spent most of her years in San Antonio, following her husband's military career. She and her spouse raised their daughters in San Anotnio, and she never failed to have an open door for anyone who needed her. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling with her league, camping with her family, and going to Vegas. She also had a passion for sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Spurs. However, the thing she enjoyed the most was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether it was babysitting, attending their events and performances, or giving them advice and encouragement. She always reminded them to never give up, both in sports and academics.
