Herminia (Minnie) Vargas

Herminia (Minnie) Vargas passed away August 8 at Magnumcare of Adrian with her daughter and oldest granddaughter at her side. Herminia was born on April 25, 1930, in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Victoria and Inocencio Banda. On March 3, 1946, she married Zaragosa (Vale) Vargas who preceded her in death after 64 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Mary's Church for many years. During that time she belonged to the Guadalupe Society, the Crucillos, and was a Eucharistic minister. She would also help with funeral dinners and worked at the bingo games. Herminia worked most of her life, first as a migrant worker, then as a housekeeper, a factory worker and finally as a teacher's aide for Adrian Public Schools. She instilled in her children a strong work ethic and the importance of an education. Herminia was an avid gardener and loved sharing the fruits of her passion with friends and family. If she knew you had a green thumb, she would gift you with cuttings from her many plants. Herminia is survived by her children Olga (Jose) Cuellar of Saline, Zaragosa (Zaneta) of Santa Barabra, CA, Richard (Mikki) of Port Jefferson Station, NY, and her daughter-in-law Sharon Vargas of Adrian, her brothers Juan (Helen) Banda of Tecumseh and Noverto Banda of Adrian, her cousin Angelita Castorena of Ypsilanti and her beloved pet Chico of Palm Springs, CA. Also surviving her are 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Maria Banda, and her two sons, Ted Edward and Roy. The family would like to thank the staff at Magnumcare who provided her with excellent care. Special thanks to Erica Lamb who went above and beyond her duties in caring for Herminia and for being a source of comfort for her family. The Funeral Liturgy for Herminia will be offered on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish with Father Thomas Murphy as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, where a Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
