Hershel Edward Yates

Hershel Edward Yates, 80 of Honaker, KY, passed away January 7, 2025 at his residence. Born May 25, 1945 in Floyd Co, KY, he was the son of the late Tivis & Bessie Mae Marshall Yates. Hershel is survived by his wife, Bernice Compton Yates. He was a retired coal miner & bus driver for Floyd County Board of Education. Hershel is survived by his children: Edmund (Donna) Yates of Stanville, KY, Gabryel Stevens of Honaker, KY, Greta Lea (Terry) Rupe of MI, Shelia Lynn (Daniel) Boone of OK, Lisa Stevens of Huntington, WV and Sabrina (Shane) Spriggs of Pikeville, KY; 20 grandchildren & a host great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by one son: Hershel Yates Jr.; one grandson Zachary Stevens and one great grandson Remington Stevens and a host of brothers & sisters. Hershel will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Visitation after 6pm Friday (January 9, 2026) and all day Saturday (January 10, 2026 at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, Martin
Funeral services 2pm Sunday (January 11, 2026) at the funeral home with Ronnie Spriggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Yates-Hunter Cemetery Honaker, KY
