Heyward Darrell (Darry) Funchess, age 85, passed away on November 4, 2025. He was born in Orangeburg, SC on April 22, 1940 to Clarence Heyward and Eloise Davis Funchess.

Darry attended Bowman High School and graduated from Southeastern Institute of Electronics in Atlanta, GA. He was employed by Vitro Laboratories from 1959 until his retirement in 2001. He was also a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Darry enjoyed fishing, tinkering with electronics, riding motorcycles and camping with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jane B. Funchess of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; daughter, Kelly Funchess Jones (Greg) of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Richard D. Funchess of Ft. Walton Beach and Scott H. Funchess (Amanda) of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren, Hunter S. Jones (Leah), Alisa J. Jones, Lea M. Funchess; bonus grandchildren, Hope Meadows, Priscila Wilbet, and Farrah Ivanoff; 3 great-grandchildren, Georgia O. Jones, Brett S. Jones, and Camille J. Jones and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence H. and Eloise D. Funchess and a brother, David B. Funchess.

Darry was adamant about not having a funeral or celebration in his honor. There will be a family graveside service on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Gulf Breeze, FL.
