Higinia Rodriguez (Gina) 83, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 11th surrounded by her family. She was born on January 11, 1941, in the town of Maricao, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Antonio Rodriguez and Carmen Ortiz. 

She enjoyed the simple things in life, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. She took great pleasure in helping others. 

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be missed by her family, which she dearly loved. 

Family was paramount to Gina, she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in the hearts of her children; Gloria Morales of Florida, Jose Montanez and his spouse Lori of South Carolina, Sonia Garritt and her spouse David of Highfalls, Janet Laracuente of Ellenville, Yvette Laracuente of Florida, and Carmelo Oquendo and spouse Tracy of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are her sister Rosa Sansebastian of Ellenville and her brother Antonio Rodriguez Jr. of Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by her spouse Carmelo Oquendo Sr, and her brothers Benjamin Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez. 

Gina was a longtime employee of Channel Master.

She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. 

Gina was the matriarch of the family in every moment she graced this earth with her presence, she left an indelible mark of love and kindness on all that were fortunate enough to know her. She taught her family to be appreciative for all things. 

May her spirit find peace in eternity as we hold dear memories she gifted us. 

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and bid farewell to Gina during visitation hours scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 9 to 11 AM at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville. A service honoring her memory will begin at 11 AM followed by the interment at Fantinekill Cemetery and repass at St. Mary & St. Andrew’s Hall.
