In Loving Memory of Judith Kay Lampe Shelledy (1947–2025)
Judith (“Judy”) Kay Lampe Shelledy, 78, of Ellenville, New York, passed away suddenly on July 8, 2025, at Garnet Medical Center in Middletown, NY, due to complications from heart disease.
Born on January 26, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, she was the beloved daughter of Wilma (Detrick) and Herman Lampe. Judy spent her childhood and early adult years surrounded by her large extended family in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa before moving to New York State with her first husband in 1968.
After years at home raising her children, Judy pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York, and committed her career to serving others. As a community health nurse, Judy worked at the Pine Bush clinic of the Middletown Community Health Center, and later at the Center for Disability Services in New York’s Capital District, where her gentle professionalism and empathy made a lasting impact.
Judy enjoyed staying connected with friends and loved ones online and found a second chance at love reconnecting online with her high school boyfriend, Kirk Shelledy. They married and after retirement moved to Florida and found joy in the tranquility of the Gulf Coast—boating, fishing, and embracing the wildlife and natural beauty that surrounded them.
Judy’s last few years were spent back in her adopted home state of New York where she enjoyed the company of old friends and made lasting memories with her children and grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her son, Sean MacGregor and his wife Meg of Woodland Hills, California; and her daughters, Jennifer Meiners and her husband Bill of Long Valley, New Jersey, and Elizabeth Straub and her husband Brandon of Ellenville, New York. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Theodore, Henry, and Owen Meiners, and Layla and Ruby Straub. Judy also leaves behind a wide circle of cousins and close friends whom she treasured as family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, Kirk Shelledy.
In accordance with Judy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Family and close friends gathered privately to share stories, celebrate her life, and honor the kindness and warmth she brought to the world.
