Charles Samuel Shelledy, age 82, passed away Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at Cox South Hospital, from a sudden illness, surrounded by his family.
Charles is the son of the late Charles Samuel Shelledy and Marie Waffell (Burrell) Shelledy. Charles was saved at a young age and baptized into Robberson Prairie Baptist Church.
Charles was born on Shelledy Lane (now known as Farm Road 129) and he resided there all but one year of his life. Charles married Carol Lynne Callaway on March 4th, 1967 celebrating 57 years together. To this union was born one daughter, Melissa. Charles loved to farm, raise beef cattle, and put up hay. At age 82 he was still working hard on the farm, weed-eating his fence rows and trimming trees in preparation to brush hog as he enjoyed keeping the family farm neat and orderly for Carol and his family. Charles' son-in-law, Kip, enjoyed getting to spend time helping Charles on the farm. You could always find Charles and Carol at any event of their grandchildren as they attended all things that they were involved in. His grandchildren brought him much joy in his life.
After graduating from Willard High School, Charles served 3 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He started out owning and operating his own dump-truck then worked for his uncle through Ralph Russell Trucking Company until he started hauling propane full-time for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004 from MFA Propane. In his later years, he enjoyed being a member of the SWMO Edge TA Branch Number 16 Tractor Club, getting to spend time meeting new, dear friends. Charles enjoyed the many trips, fairs, and shows they attended together. He also served on the Robberson Prairie Cemetery Board for many years. Charles loved to visit with his family, friends, neighbors, and any new acquaintances he might come in contact with. It is quite possible that when visiting with Charles he might have a question or two or three.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Marie, father and mother-in-law Bruce and Jewel Callaway, brother-in-law David McCarty, nephew Buck Wiles, and dear friend Wayne Presley.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter Melissa Baker and husband Kip, grandchildren Brock Baker and Shelby (Baker) Mangels and her husband Garrison; a sister, Carolyn McCarty, sister-in-law Judy White, and brother-in-law Joe Callaway and wife Jill. Nieces and nephews, Donna Jackson and husband Steve, Mike McCarty, Kevin McCarty and wife Sarah, Dale Rea and wife Sue, Joy Rea, Brian Rea and wife Marsha, Amanda Rinker and husband Brandon, and Joseph Callaway. Charles is also survived by a host of great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Charles will be dearly missed by Carol and all his family and friends.
Services for Charles will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 11th at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Interment will follow at Robberson Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, January 10th in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Robberson Prairie Cemetery, 3027 W Farm Road 38 Willard, MO 65781.

Charlie had one of those smiles that was contagious, he seemed to wear it everywhere. When he delivered propane I would walk out to greet him and there it was along with a firm handshake and instantly I also had a smile. Got to see him just a few months ago and yes it was still there. I´m sure he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
