Obituary of Hilary Francis Weldon
Hilary "Larry" Francis Weldon passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2024.
Larry is survived by his daughter Beverly (Weldon) Joyce of Maynard, MA, his grandson Michael Joyce Jr. of Maynard, MA and his great granddaughter Jacqueline Joyce of Maynard, MA. He is preceded in death by his wife Bernadette McCusker Weldon of Carver, MA, his son Michael Francis Weldon of Brockton, MA and his daughter Kimberly Anne Weldon of Brockton, MA.
Hilary joined the army at age 17, at the tail end of the Korean War as a combat engineer and served for twelve years. He earned various medals and commendations during his training at Eta Jima Specialist School. Following the military, Hilary went to work at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. He wrote computer software for guidance and gyro systems used in ICBM's and two of NASA's successful Apollo missions. After thirty-five years of service to Draper Lab, he retired.
Always fanatical about golf, Larry owned every type of gadget he thought would assist in getting his score down. During his retirement, he continued to enjoy the game and a weekly game of poker. He also bought his own pool stick convinced it would make the difference between winning and losing. He enjoyed bowling so much that when he no longer played on a league, he'd watch it on television. He loved umpiring various baseball and softball leagues and even liked to roller skate, much to the embarrassment of his kids. He was much loved and will be much missed.
Service will be Friday April 19,2024 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Carver, MA followed by burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA
