Hilda E Pretell

Hilda E. Pretell, a beacon of strength and love, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Old Bridge, NJ surrounded by her loving family.

Hilda was born on June 26, 1935 to Juan Quinones Rodriguez and Gorginia Santos Muniz in Peñuelas Ponce, Puerto Rico. She was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, whose legacy of love and resilience will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her.

Hilda's life was a testament to her enduring fortitude and her ability to speak her mind with clarity and conviction. Her journey took her from the warm shores of Puerto Rico to the diverse landscapes of Maryland, New York and finally to New Jersey, where she spent her last six years surrounded by the love and laughter of her extensive family. Her experiences in these places shaped her into a woman of wisdom and character, one who was respected and admired by all who had the privilege of crossing her path.

Hilda found joy in the simple pleasures of fishing and crabbing, often sharing these moments with her family and friends. Her hands were rarely still, as she expressed her creativity through the intricate art of crocheting and needlepoint, crafting beautiful pieces that became treasured keepsakes. Hilda's passion for life extended to the excitement of playing the slots where she enjoyed the vibrant energy and the thrill of chance.

Hilda was a wonderful cook, preparing each dish with love, especially when making traditional Puerto Rican cuisine. Her dishes were not just meals but expressions of her heritage and her desire to nurture those around her. The aromas that wafted from her kitchen were invitations to gather, to share stories, and to create memories that would last a lifetime.

Hilda's love for her many relatives was boundless, and she took immense pride in her role as the matriarch of her family. She was a source of wisdom, comfort, and inspiration, always ready with a listening ear or a word of advice. Her strength of character was matched only by the depth of her affection, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the generations to come.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with a funeral service beginning at 7:00pm at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 RT 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to any of the following organizations that were close to Hilda's heart: Wounded Warrior Project, Shriners Children's Hospital, or St Joseph Indian School.
